We are participating in another SIMPLE Service project. As part of my partnership with GE, I received coupons for my GE light bulbs. All opinions posted about my GE Lighting experience are my own.
Do you ever think about the logistics involved in running a charitable organization? I typically don’t, but I recently realized that there are a lot of behind the scenes details that go unnoticed by those of us who support the organization. Take the bill paying, for example. I wonder what it costs the average charity to keep the utilities going and to keep the facility functioning at its peak. Again, not something we think of often, but it’s definitely on my mind right now, as I prepare to participate in another SIMPLE Service Project with Champions for Kids.
Yep, we’re at it again, and you know how excited I get about these projects. This time, we’re working with GE lighting to help a kid-loving organization save energy and money as we take the GE Energy Smart Challenge.
Our goal is simple: reach out to a great group of kids and help light their path. To do that, I took a trip to Walmart and grabbed a couple of boxes of energy efficient light bulbs. The kids and I plan to donate one box to one of two charities that helps orphans, and we’re using the other box to challenge our friends and neighbors. Our hope is that they will switch out incandescent bulbs for GE Energy Smart® bulbs and then donate a pack of bulbs to a local charity or other community organization dear to their hearts.
You can dive into this challenge too. Start by using the GE Energy Savings Calculator to see how much you can save in your own home. After you’re convinced of just how much you can save, find a deserving organization that could also use some energy smart bulbs. Devise your own challenge for involving your friends, then visit the GE Lighting Facebook page to see how you can win a $100 Walmart gift card to add to your donation. As an added incentive, you can also access a coupon to save $1 on your purchase.
Look for another post soon to see how the kids and I are encouraging our friends to get involved (take a sneak peek below). If you decide to complete your own challenge, I’d love to hear about it, so please leave a comment and let me know the details!
