The kids and I are spinning into action to bring great smiles to 25 kids in our community. We have geared up for another SIMPLE Service Project, and this time, we’re partnering with Champions for Kids and Arm & Hammer to provide Spinbrush toothbrushes to children in need (#SpinbrushCFK).
It’s something my children take for granted, but oral care is a missing ingredient in the lives of many children:
- Over 19% of children ages 2-19 have untreated cavities.
- Tooth decay remains one of the most common diseases of childhood.
- Children living in poverty suffer twice as much tooth decay as their more affluent peers, and their disease is more likely to go untreated.
- The daily reality for children with untreated oral disease is often persistent pain, inability to eat comfortably or chew well, embarrassment at discolored and damaged teeth, and distraction from play and learning.
To help, we hopped on over to our local Wal-Mart, had a little fun, and picked up some very cute Arm & Hammer Spinbrush toothbrushes to donate to our friends at the Youth Life Foundation of Durham (you’ve read about them before!). We’re looking forward to adding the toothbrushes to the backpacks they’ll receive during their Back-to-School backpack drive. I’m happy we’re able to do a little bit more to help these deserving kids.
Each of my kids used their own money to purchase a Spinbrush for a child in need. I’m also rallying my friends, fans and followers to join us by purchasing a Spinbrush (or the toothbrush of your choice) and any other oral care items you wish. Help us provide at least 25 new toothbrushes so that the children at the Life Center can enjoy the same level of at-home oral care that our kids do.
