All You Champions for Kids SIMPLE Service Project

Monday, March 26, 2012

Did you catch my post on couponing for good? The kids and I used our couponing super powers in a SIMPLE service project with Champions for Kids and All You magazine. Our goal was to donate cleaning supplies to help the Youth Life Foundation of the Triangle with their spring cleaning. It was our little contribution to the great work they’re doing to offer after school academic programs, teen leadership clubs, and parental guidance programs to the people of the Cornwallis community of Durham, North Carolina.

I visited last week to drop off the cleaning supplies and to take a quick tour. The kids had not arrived yet, so I had an opportunity to ask some questions and discover the heart of what happens at the center. The kids are not only learning, they’re being nurtured by staff and volunteers who love them and want to see them succeed. The center is clearly a vital part of the lives of the children who visit everyday, and some of them have been around so long, they have multiple entries on the sweet little growth chart being maintained on the walls.

I so appreciate their commitment to the children and their community. It was a bright spot in my day to visit a place that reminded me of my childhood neighborhood, and see such hope and possibility smack dab in the middle of it. Our goal is to make the cleaning supplies a regular donation. Want to join us in giving? They can always use more cleaning supplies and school supplies and healthy snacks and bottled water are also  items on their list of needs (comment or email me for details).

Here, the lovely Christina and Candice take a minute away from their daily prep to pose with the cleaning supplies and some other goodies we dropped in their laps. You can see a few more pictures of my time there in my Google+ album and you can explore other SIMPLE service products by following #AllYouCFK on twitter.
